  • Marine
A Notice from the D O T

APPLICATION:

  • Pipelines (any buried metallic structures)
  • Bridges
  • Marine Vessels
  • Offshore Facilities

ARK Engineering & Technical Services provides the expertise required to analyze and resolve your corrosion problems. Our team of corrosion control engineers and technicians have a wide range of experience solving difficult corrosion problems.

CORROSION ANALYSIS AC CORROSION

Through field surveys and testing, ARK Engineering evaluates corrosion exposure on existing and planned structures. Utilizing a review of the exposure characteristics, appropriate material selection, protective coatings, and cathodic protection design, the corrosion process can be reduced significantly.

The problem of induced AC currents on pipelines and its corrosive effects has been discussed for decades. More recently, additional research and field studies have provided more visibility to this issue in the pipeline industry. Research studies have indicated that pipeline AC current densities that exceed a specific threshold in Amps/m2 at specific locations can exhibit AC corrosion, even though the cathodic protection levels on the pipeline are maintained within industry standards.

Development of a relationship between a pipeline's cathodic protection level and AC current discharge from the pipeline is dependant upon local soil and environmental conditions. ARK Engineering's staff utilizes these and current density level measurements for insights into the corrosive effects to the pipeline caused by AC current.

ARK Engineering assists our clients with identification of these effects and in the design of effective mitigation of the AC current density on the pipelines to safe levels. ARK Engineering is continually monitoring the on-going research and field test investigations on the effects of AC corrosion and developing methods to mitigate these effects to structures.

CATHODIC PROTECTION
ARK Engineering's staff designs galvanic and impressed current cathodic protection systems for any structure requiring corrosion protection.

Our project management services include:
  • Site Survey
  • Soil Resistivity Testing
  • Cathodic Protection System Design
  • Installation Services
  • System Start-up
  • Documentation

  • Our technical support staff can also provide periodic testing and maintenance of your cathodic protection systems.
SOIL RESISTIVITY ANALYSIS GROUNDBED SYSTEM DESIGN AND INSTALLATION

If required, ARK Engineering provides soil resistivity analysis using state-of-the-art instruments to determine soil structure and resistivities of multi-layer soil. The characteristics of the soil surrounding a structure are very important in determining the proper corrosion protection. This analysis results in a more efficient cathodic protection system.

Because of environmental variables, experience is invaluable in the design and installation of groundbeds so that they have the desired effect for the buried structure. ARK Engineering's team of corrosion engineers and technicians has the necessary experience and knowledge to properly design and install a system to fulfill your specific corrosion control needs.

    COMPUTERIZED CORROSION CONTROL MATERIALS PROCUREMENT

ARK Engineering's technical staff develops complete corrosion control monitoring programs. These programs allow for remote monitoring of rectifiers, test leads, and other field corrosion points. Our computerized programs can ensure federal and state code compliance, with a reduction in monitoring costs and manpower.

Proper selection of system materials is crucial to ensuring that the system performs as designed. The choice of materials involves economic as well as safety concerns. ARK Engineering has established relationships with manufacturers and distributors of reliable corrosion control products, which provide premium protection at the least cost and greatest effectiveness.
    START-UP TESTING
As part of our comprehensive cathodic protection services, ARK Engineering provides start-up testing and commissioning of these systems. We perform all of the necessary testing to ensure that the equipment is functioning as designed.
