ELECTRICAL INTERFERENCE ANALYSIS
AND MITIGATION DESIGN

Pipelines are often forced to share right-of-way corridors with high voltage power lines and other facilities. As a result, inductive and conductive electrical interference is an increasingly familiar problem. The design and installation of mitigation systems on the pipelines can reduce the interference levels and eliminate safety and operational problems.

DATA COLLECTION SOIL RESISTIVITY ANALYSIS
Through field surveys and investigation, ARK Engineering determines voltage levels and current flow in both the underground structures and overhead electrical circuits. Once a detailed assessment of the current flow is completed, it is possible to estimate the interference effects and determine possible solutions. If required, ARK Engineering provides soil resistivity analysis using state-of-the-art instruments to determine soil structure and resistivities of multi-layer soil. The soil characteristics and the distribution of current in the soil surrounding a structure is very important in determining electrical interference effects on nearby structures and the effectiveness of a mitigation system.
ELECTROMAGNETIC & CONDUCTIVE INTERFERENCE ANALYSIS

If data collection and testing indicate the need for further analysis, ARK Engineering conducts a detailed analysis using state-of-the-art modeling software. The software models the interference effects based on technical parameters of both utilities. The programs analyze the combined effects of inductive and conductive coupling for steady state and fault conditions.

MITIGATION DESIGN POST COMMISSIONING TESTING

ARK Engineering designs the most appropriate and cost effective mitigation system to reduce electrical interference to safe levels. The design is integrated into the client's construction drawings for installation on a new build or into existing facilities.

As part of our comprehensive engineering services, ARK Engineering provides post commissioning testing to ensure that the mitigation system is functioning as designed and that it is effectively reducing the interference levels on the buried structure.
MITIGATION SYSTEM INSTALLATION

In addition to performing testing, interference analysis, and designing mitigation systems, ARK Engineering's team of experienced engineers and technicians also install and commission AC mitigation systems.

SYSTEM INSTALLATION START-UP TESTING
ARK Engineering's Installation and Testing Division staff has extensive experience in the installation of AC mitigation systems. Great care is taken to properly install the system materials so that they will meet their design life expectations. As part of our comprehensive AC interference services, ARK Engineering provides start-up testing and commissioning of these systems. We perform all of the necessary testing to ensure that the equipment is functioning as designed and is effectively reducing the interference levels on the pipeline.
MATERIALS PROCUREMENT

Proper selection of system materials is crucial to ensuring that the system performs as designed. The choice of materials has an economic aspect as well. ARK Engineering has established relationships with manufacturers and distributors of reliable corrosion control products. These products provide the most cost effective and dependable protection.
